Council seeks legal advice over abrupt closure of snow sports centre

Rushmoor Borough Council has sought legal advice after a firm operating a snow sports centre abruptly ceased trading.

The council said it is actively pursuing wellbeing charity Active Nation for an update following its "surprise announcement" that it was closing the Alpine Snowsports Centre in Aldershot with immediate effect earlier this month (2 April).

The now-shuttered centre boasted three dry ski slopes, a café and a bar.

In a statement on the closure, a council spokesperson said it had taken legal advice on the position, in particular around contractual arrangements.

The council also noted that it has asked Active Nation what customers should do about booking refunds but has yet to hear back.

The statement added: "We have looked after the centre, which is owned by the army, for more than 30 years and we know it's much-loved.

"As well as providing popular activities for all ages, it has also been a training venue for a number of high-level snow sports athletes who have started their careers there.

"We are urgently looking at all potential options for the centre, but given the specialist nature of the facility this is not straightforward."

Active Nation also operated a series of leisure facilities in Southampton that have now closed as well.
